In a dark time, the eye begins to see. --t. roethke

Quieting the noise

Ooompfh….

It’s noisy out there. And yet weirdly quiet. Where are the protests? The outrage? The resistance?

Where is your mood meter set? I know people are in distress about the chaos afoot.

It’s hard not to hold the stress, get triggered by the impact of all things geopolitical inside our already demanding lives.

My nervous system has been in a state of tension. Of outrage. Sometimes fear, of what it all means. History repeats. Are we fool enough to allow it?

This is what shock and denial and self delusion lead to…
Ignoring the growing problem while rationalizing it away...
Someone else will take care of it. Someone else needs to speak up. Someone needs to do something.

Yes.

You.

And me.

And all humane citizens.

Inside your own life, learning responsibility and ownership are too often the missing pieces in an indulged North American society.  An indulged generation. Culturally we are sinking.

So do we swim, bail frantically on this sinking ship, or declare mutiny on the bounty.  We have choices but they are closing in on us fast.

The digital world has changed things too fast for our little systems to adapt and cope. Too much information has created mass addiction and inertia. Overwhelm, misinformation and inaction.

We are disoriented as a society. This creates havoc, apathy and a lot of numbing behaviours. Disconnection is the result.

We don’t have time or the luxury to numb.

This s**t is real.

Protest. Donate. Speak up. Sign petitions. Vote carefully. Be extra kind and generous. Start where you live. Be creative. Garden. Hug your family more.

Resist cynicism. It’s lazy and too easy to rest there arrogantly.

It sinks your mental health too.

More than ever, ‘we must keep up our spirits and be neighborly.’ - (dickens)

There is much wisdom and strength in being creative; resist in active hope and stay grounded. Connect to nature. Learn the strength in kindness. The courage in restraint. The gusto in expressing truths. Full, dimensional truths, not egocentric ones.

Make your contribution however you can. It matters.

We are interlopers here. Visitors for a brief time. We don’t really own anything. We delude ourselves into the idea of permanence.  Wealth doesn’t secure immortality.

Don’t become complacent. The time to act is now. Do what you can.

And today, that may simply mean taking care of you so you have the stamina to take care of business.

Forest gump had something figured out. Keep moving! It’s where solutions, creativity and release begin.

Running/Walking is the best way to regulate--
And it’s benefits go beyond the nervous system reset and mental clarity to
Regulating blood sugar and blood pressure and improving sleep quality; which we all need more than ever.

We don’t walk enough.
Walk as much as you can wherever you can. Engage in walking meditations for peace. If you are unable to walk— focus on your breath. Full, deep breaths.

Walk in truth, compassion and honour.

Walk yourself home.
In courage, remember your personal power,
